What is an American Bulldog and Pitbull Mix Called?

The Bullypit is a mix of the American Bulldog and the American Pit Bull Terrier. The result is typically a huge dog with a short, glossy coat that comes in a variety of hues including brown, chocolate, black, and white.

They are robust and stocky, with short pointed ears and a wide grin. They are often sociable and make excellent household companions as well as powerful guard dogs

Bullypits are intelligent and reasonably easy to train because they want to make their owners pleased. However, they require persistence and positive discipline. This breed is confident and self-assured, thus they like someone with similar qualities.

American Bulldog Pitbull Mix Puppies History

American Bulldog Pitbull Mix Puppies History

The Bullypit hasn’t been around long enough to have much of a history, thus it’s best to look at the parent breeds. The American Bulldog originated in the United States around the 1700s.

They were initially developed to wrangle cattle and bait bulls, although the latter was declared illegal in 1835. The assumption was that baiting the bull before butchering resulted in superior meat.

After this was illegal, some breeders attempted to utilize them as combat dogs but were unsuccessful. All American Bulldogs were bred from the Johnson, Baily, Scott, or Williamson breeds. Nowadays, this breed is commonly used as a security dog or household pet

They make excellent guard dogs due to their loyalty and fearlessness. The American Pit Bull Terrier dates back to the nineteenth century when it was developed in the United Kingdom by crossing a Bulldog with a Terrier.

The goal was to breed a dog with the athleticism and strength of a Bulldog and the enthusiasm of a Terrier. The American Pit Bull Terrier, like the Bulldog, was originally employed for fighting and baiting.

Unfortunately, the American Pit Bull Terrier has a negative reputation as an aggressive breed, which is not true. They are often not violent toward humans or other pets unless abused or treated aggressively.

The Bullypit has a short, smooth, glossy coat that comes in a variety of colours, including white, brown, black, and chocolate.

They have a huge head, a short nose, a wide mouth, a deep chest, and a powerful and firm back. The tail is long and tapering, while the legs are short, stocky, and clearly defined. Their feet are large and proportionate to their legs.

The Bullypit is typically around 25 inches tall and weighs between 50 and 100 pounds, depending on the size of the parent breeds. Their wide mouths might give the impression that they are smiling at you, and they occasionally have humorous faces.

American Bulldog and Pitbull Mix Maintenance

Because of their short hair, you don’t need to brush your Bullypit as frequently. A short brushing with a soft bristle brush once or twice per week should suffice to keep shedding to a minimum.

Shampooing your dog should only be done when necessary, as excessive bathing can create dry skin. Once a week, while cleaning your dog’s ears, look for redness, wax accumulation, and ear mites.

Brush your dog’s teeth at least once or twice a week using toothpaste prepared specifically for dogs, and trim her nails as needed.

Temperament of the American Bulldog and Pitbull Mix

Although the Bullypit appears aggressive and can be a threatening guard dog, this breed is extremely kind and affectionate with its family.

If you socialize with them while they are young, your Bullypit should get along with any pet in your home, though they may pursue squirrels and bunnies outside like any other dog.

You must ensure that your Bullypit understands that you are the leader of the pack in your home and that they are not allowed to do anything they want.

Activity Requirements of American Bulldog and Pitbull Mix

Your Bullypit enjoys being active and requires at least one hour to 90 minutes of moderate exercise every day.

Without proper exercise, your Bullypit is prone to become bored and engage in inappropriate behaviours such as chewing on furniture or anything else she can find.

Walking your dog around the neighbourhood or going to the dog park are both great options. Most dogs of this breed enjoy playing fetch or chase with other pets. The Bullypit is also excellent for agility training and competitions of all types.
